  Fractional credits are used when a single downing
of an enemy aircraft is credited to more then 1 pilot.
This occurs when a number of pilots are shooting at,
and attacking the same aircraft.

Commander John T. Blackburn led VF-29's Wildcats
against Vichy French forces in the Allied invasion of
North Africa 1942. Forming squadron VF-17, equipped with the new F4U Corsair, Blackburn's pilots dubbed themselves the "Jolly Rogers" and set-up a land-based squadron in the Solomon's. VF-17's Corsairs were credited with destroying 152 enemy aircraft
in under five months, producing 13 aces.
Blackburn accounted for 11 confirmed,
5 probable and 3 damaged.
